This guideline includes eight evidence-based recommendations for tobacco treatment in the inpatient setting.
In hospitalized adults who smoke cigarettes, we recommend initiating varenicline during hospitalization to promote smoking cessation.
In hospitalized adults who smoke cigarettes, we recommend inpatient tobacco treatment counseling over brief advice.
In hospitalized adults who smoke cigarettes, we recommend postdischarge telephone-based counseling over no postdischarge counseling.
